The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown

Once upon a time there were three sisters - the smart one, the pretty one, and the adventuresome one.  Raised in a home of readers with no TV and a professor father who has a Shakespearean quote to cover every life circumstance, they have often thought of themselves as the three witches of MacBeth.  The good sister stayed in their Ohio college town and cannot imagine life anywhere else.  The other two pretend to come home to help with their mother who is being treated for breast cancer.  Both know that their real reasons will become obvious soon enough.  Everyone had a plan born out of either admiration or fear of small town life.  Change happens.  They are funny and tragic and wise.  One of the most interesting features is that it is written in first person plural.  It seemed strange at first but it was actually kind of logical - each sister has their own story but it is really about them together.
It was a 2014 World Book Night U.S. selection - whatever that is.
