The Art Forger by B.A. Shapiro

Claire Roth makes high quality copies of great works of art for a living.  She is in fact the Degas specialist for Repro, Inc.  However when the owner of a prestigious Boston art gallery offers her a one woman show if she will make a copy of a painting, she hesitates.  The painting is After the Bath by Degas - one of the paintings stolen about twenty years earlier from the Gardner Museum and never found.  Desperate to reenter the legitimate art world after some nasty business a few years before, Claire agrees recognizing she has made a pact with a very attractive devil.  Things become more complicated when she begins to suspect that the Degas original she has been given may be a copy as well.  A little mystery, a little romance and a whole lot about the world of painting.  If you have ever been to the Gardner Museum and are familiar with the story of the fascinating Isabella Stewart Gardner, you will find this clever plot even more intriguing.
