Beachcombing for a Shipwrecked God by Joe Coomer
Ever since her husband died, 70+ year old Grace has lived on their boat moored for 4 years in Portsmouth, N.H. Sharing a cabin on that boat are 17 year old Chloe escaping her dysfunctional family and Charlotte a young archeologist who is looking for a space to grieve the accidental death of her husband in her own way. Grace is often observed talking to herself while distributing small highly realistic paintings on sidewalks and walls around town. Charlotte finds rewarding work at a local dig but is still bothered by her in-laws' accusations about her marriage. Chloe discovers she is pregnant but is determined to face her future without her abusive boyfriend. This odd trio finds in each other both the support and the space they need. Then Grace suffers a stroke and her daughter Anne arrives with a plan to sell the boat and put her mother in a home. Determined to help Grace regain her strength and her memory, Chloe and Charlotte take her and the boat on an adventure that will change all of them. A short oddly satisfying read although I didn't think it lived up to the promise of its intriguing title.
