Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
This is the final book in the series begun with Hunger Games and continued with Catching Fire. Katniss has become the symbol of the rebel fight against the evil power of the Capitol - a symbol whose intent is to inspire people to fight to the death. And with every death, Katniss feels a sick, sad responsibility. These books are full of creative ways to kill. The fantasy nature of the struggle between the two forces does little to take the edge off the horror of their conflict. Even victory comes at too great a cost. At the National Book Festival, Collins, a child of a military family, stated that she writes about war in the hope that her readers will be inspired to seek peace. We can only hope it works for readers of any age.
