The Elegant Gathering of White Snows by Kris Radish

Eight women of wildly different backgrounds find each other in rural Wisconsin.  They are not a book group or a knitting group.  Their husbands think they are studying ... something.  But they are just talking, sharing, supporting.  One evening they learn that one of the group now finds herself in a really difficult situation.  They talk about all the difficult times in their lives when they just wanted to walk out the door and keep going.  So they do.   Their walk hits the media and strikes a cord with women everywhere.  An early dropout from the group and various women in the area become guardian angels providing food and shelter.  Each chapter is the story of one of the walkers or someone affected by their adventure.  Sometimes it seems a little heavy handed but I am sure it would be fodder for discussion.
