Lindbergh crosses the Atlantic, Babe Ruth, Sacco and Vanzetti, Calvin Coolidge, Mt. Rushmore...and the list goes on. I wonder if it is possible that any summer would have been just as historically significant. The bibliography suggests many reasons why Bryson may have chosen to focus on the summer of 1927 but they way in which he weaves the stories of all the fascinating characters of this summer together is impressive. Pick any page and prepare to read history as you may have never read it before.
