Joy for Beginners by Erica Bauermeister
I am not sure why almost every book about a group of women has to include at least one who has cancer. At least in this book that person lives. At Kate's recovery celebration, her daughter announces that she is taking her mother on a raft trip down the Colorado - trading one life changing experience for another. Kate insists that each of the women who helped her through the difficult period of treatment be given that chance to experience the joy of overcoming some challenge in their own lives. As it turns out, these women shared a great deal at her bedside - often when they thought Kate was asleep. Armed with their secrets, she selects a challenge for each of her friends and so the story goes. Warm, fuzzy, good conversation stuff, maybe some insights - but there have been so many of these books, they are beginning to border on trite.
