We Are All Welcome Here by Elizabeth Berg

Berg wrote this story as a response to a request she received from a woman to write her mother's story.  In Berg's fictional version, Paige Dunn gives birth to her daughter Diana as she fights the affects of polio in an iron lung.  Their survival depends largely on their tough talking caregiver Peacie.  As Diana grows up she has more and more responsibility for her mother's care in violation of the rules in Tupelo, Mississippi.  Their lives become complicated by the turmoil of the civil rights movement and redeemed by that famous Tupelo native, Elvis Presley.
