The Cookbook Collector by Allegra Goldman
Reviewers refer to Goldman as the contemporary Jane Austin and anyone with either sense or sensibility would read this book and agree. Emily and Jesse Bach are sisters but they couldn't be less alike. Emily is the type A CEO of a silicon valley tech start up. Jesse is the dreamy academic working in a antiquarian book store. Emily and her long time boyfriend are both chasing the high tech dream of wealth and power on opposite coasts. How will their love for each other play against the sharing of trade secrets? Jesse is both attracted to and wary of the millionaire owner of the bookstore. When he gives her the dream job of cataloging the valuable cookbook collection he has purchased, she wonders if he is recognizing her skill or buying her affection. It is an intriguing cast of characters and an interesting view into both the high tech world and the rarified air of rare book collecting.
