The Book Club by Mary Alice Monroe

Five women who read things like Moby Dick (really?) move in and out of the long term friendships of their book club. Their lives collapse and they find new strength in new roles. Nothing surprising here. It was a good airplane read and made me wonder about how my book group could be romanticized into a novel. We can probably match a few of their self discovery and elderly parent issues and but no dead or cheating husbands or pregnancy dramas to match the women in this book. My guess is that in reality most book groups are better about conversation than the stuff of novels.
