The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway

Three people share their stories during the siege of Sarajevo, all trying to survive, each one with a different way of fighting back. It is the courage of the defiant cellist playing Albinoni's Adagio in G that allows each to search for a way to retain a sense of humanity in the midst of war. It is a story of personal choice - when circumstances place us in a situation that seems out of our control, how do we maintain our essential goodness or how do we get back to it when we are forced to do the unthinkable. The cellist in the story is based on a real person but the rest is fiction. I remember the Sarajevo of the Olympics and then the war and now the recovery. Why can't we just skip the war part?
