Saturday by Ian McEwan

When neurosurgeon Henry Perowne awakes inexplicably early Saturday morning and believes he sees a fiery plane crash, he suspects his day would be strange. He has no idea. As his day goes from bad to horrible, the knowledge he has as a neurosurgeon is a catalyst to the chaos but in the end it is the strength he draws from love of family that leads to the surprising climax. This story lacks the emotional complexity of Atonement but certainly makes for an interesting day.
