A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle

I don't know why it took me so long to take this off my shelf and read it. It was absolutely delicious and the perfect transport book for a dreary day. Brit Peter and his wife buy an old farmhouse in the vineyards of Provence and do their best to become a part of the quirky community around them. As they begin the renovation on the house, they encounter numerous mishaps all met with great good humor. But in the end it is all about the food. Roaming the French countryside, they find a bakery with bread so delightful that a guide to the loaves is printed each day. There are descriptions of foods and wines served in such charming surroundings that they practically define the "good life". I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
