On the flight back to visit the mother she hasn't seen for thirty-five years, Ginny ponders the summer her idyllic 50's life fell apart. Berg's books tend to explore women and their relationships. In this one we have two sisters who needed to know what was a reasonable expectation to make of a mother. And a mother who had to decide how much of herself she must sacrifice for her family. This probably wouldn't be new ground in terms of book group discussion although the role of the exotic neighbor offers a new twist.
