Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

This is the sequel to the earlier novel Hunger Games but I had not read the first and still found the second one to be powerful. Katniss and Peeta were victors in the Hunger Games of the previous novel. They have won enough food and special privileges for their family and members of their District. But the act that allowed them to survive the games has inspired an uprising against the cruel leaders of the Capitol. In a cruel attempt to end her influence, she and Peeta are forced to fight again. Just when she begins to believe there my be a way to save Peeta's life and help the people of the uprising, she finds that she is a pawn in a slightly different plan. The plot has multiple twists and turns and the characters are so engaging that I read it all in one sitting.
