Brooklyn Bridge by Karen Hesse

This wonderful story of immigrant life in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge is based on real events related to the design of the Teddy Bear. One story lines follows a struggling extended family trying to succeed in their new country in 1903. The other story line follows the lives of street children, victims of the poverty suffered by many of the immigrant families. It is both a heart-warming and surprising story.
